Youth for Land & Climate Action
Empowering the Next Generation to Restore Land, Life, and Livelihoods
Overview
The TOHFA Youth for Land & Climate Action Programme engages young people as environmental leaders and change-makers who contribute directly to the goals of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). Through hands-on learning, community projects, and advocacy, youth gain the skills to restore degraded land, build climate resilience, and promote sustainable practices in their communities.
Objectives
- Empower youth to participate in land restoration, reforestation, and soil conservation.
- Educate young people about desertification, drought, and sustainable land management.
- Engage youth in innovative climate action and waste minimisation projects.
- Encourage leadership in local, national, and global environmental advocacy.
Core Activities
- Youth Green Leaders Training
- Interactive workshops on land degradation, climate adaptation, and biodiversity.
- Field visits to restoration sites and sustainable farms.
- Mentorship by environmental experts and local farmers.
- Community Action Projects
- Youth-led reforestation drives and eco-gardening projects.
- Awareness campaigns on drought resilience and climate-smart agriculture.
- “Adopt-a-Tree” and “Grow Green Schools” initiatives.
- Innovation for the Planet
- Climate-tech and green entrepreneurship challenges.
- Promoting local innovations in recycling, soil health, and sustainable irrigation.
- Global Voices, Local Action
- Youth participation in UNCCD-aligned forums, SDG dialogues, and Earth Day campaigns.
- Exchange programmes between New Zealand and Pakistan to share traditional ecological knowledge and new sustainability practices.

- Increased youth participation in Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) goals.
- Strengthened community awareness about climate resilience and desertification prevention.
- Empowered youth leaders advocating for sustainable land management and environmental justice.
- Creation of a new generation of eco-ambassadors driving long-term change.
